The juxtaposition of red, white and black underscores the contrasting emotions of anticipatory exhilaration for the times to come and wistful longing for the past happy moments. The black dress speaks to the symbolic mourning for the motherhood years. Red signifies the courage to undergo personal transformation. The old books on the recessed shelf allude to the internalized thoughts, knowledge and experiences that are being transmuted into something new, bright and hopeful.
